Summer 2025: Florida, Superman, and Writing

Updated: Sep 1, 2025

As we're coming up on Labor Day, which marks the "official" end of summer, I want to do a recap of what has been an equal parts amazing and trying summer, and look ahead to what this fall will bring.

On a personal note, this summer I was able to see a lot of my family, which was amazing, and catch up with friends from college who I hadn't seen since I graduated back in 2019. It was so much fun doing a full recap on everything that's happened in our lives over the past six years, and to do so in a beautiful location (Captiva Island in Florida) to celebrate one of their weddings. Definitely a highlight of my entire year!

I also am not normally a movie person, but this summer my youngest sister was home and we managed to make it to see four new movies: Jurassic Park, Superman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Fantastic Four. Safe to say that there is no contest, Superman was my favorite by and large. I could say what I didn't like about IKWYDLS, especially as a fan of the original, but I will leave it at that.

Work-wise, writing is my 5-9 around my 9-5, and this summer was a busy one. I finished drafting a romantic comedy about a woman, Samantha, who goes on a month-long road trip around Scotland with her messy and somewhat-estranged family, led by a hot Scottish history professor named Callum. That was especially fun to write because I visited Scotland with my own family (not estranged, although somewhat messy) in 2023. This book was my love letter to Scotland and a promise that I will return someday. It is currently in the hands of critique partners and alpha readers so I can polish it up some before querying it or looking to publish.

I also am gearing up for my debut novel, The Case For Us, to begin the publishing process in earnest. I've finished my final edits before turning the manuscript over officially to my editor, and I can't wait for her to tear it to shreds so that it can be its best version when it publishes. I'm also looking forward to the cover design. My youngest sister is an extremely talented artist and drew me covers for my book when I printed an early draft for myself, because I find it easier to edit by hand on paper than on the computer!

I've also started a new work in progress that I've made it 30,000 words into so far and am excited about, and have other WIPs in the work!

I'm looking forward to fall when I will truly be in the thick of publishing!
